Two More Redistricting Maps

After looking at the 2K and 2L maps, I thought making two more maps might be useful. In the map legends there is a district name, whether it is a majority black or white, and population. So 1 w 70 k is District 1 with a white majority and 70,000 people.These districts were drawn using census block groups. Existing precincts can match up to these pretty easily and the there can be split precincts.

This first map is complete race based. District 1, 2, 3, 4,7 and 8 are white majority districts and it attempts to keep Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, and Millington whole. The dots on this map are each equal to 40 white people.



This is map tries to be fair and and create diversity. Millington, Bartlett, Germantown, and Collierville are kept as whole as possible. District 1 loses eastern Shelby County but picks up downtown. Downtown still doesn't have a very large population but may grow slowly over the next 10 years. The area to the northeast of Downtown has lost much of its population and will continue to do so. Midtown is split along Poplar ave. The white vote in 7 and 10 is sizeable but not enough to carry each district. A similar situation would exist in District 9. Overall, District 1, 7, 9, and 10 become diverse districts.
