Gray's Creek Annexation With A Map!

Gray's Creek Annexation has shot to the top of the news. One of my pet peeves is the media not providing decent maps. Above is a detailed map. You see the areas that are Memphis, Germantown, Collierville, Collierville Annexation Reserve and the in the center the Memphis Annexation Reserve. The dots are registered voters. In the Memphis Reserve there are about 12,800 and in the Collierville Annexation Reserve about 850. As you can see Memphis could annex these areas without too much increase in cost to provide services and they are much more closer to Memphis.

One of the things that I always take interest in is how people self identify. I color coded the annexation reserve areas' voters by race. Brown dot is black, blue dot is white, and pink dot is other. An unusual thing happens, the more integrated a neighborhood is, the more people identify themselves as other. The voters in the Memphis Reserve identify themselves as 16% black, 37% white, and 47% other. In the Collierville Reserve it is 4% black, 59% white, and 37% other. Obviously, the Collierville Annexation Reserve Area is populated by racist crackers. Just joking, slightly.

PS-There aren't 50,000 people living in these two annexation reserves. I saw that mentioned in a news report. If elected officials are making decisions, lets have accurate data, for a change.

This whole controversy is a scheme by big developers to make the area more fertile ground for bulldozing the forests and putting up big subdivisions.

The BS about maintaining their rural, idyllic life is a smokescreen for the real purpose which is making sure that Memphis will never annex the area which will presumably make it more attractive to high end homebuyers.

So if Norris and DUI Todd are successful, the area will have 50K in population very soon.

your grays creek mapis wrong too boyo. The Cordova South area was annexed in 2001-still in court (sic!) so is not a part of this new land grab.
