The First Week Anniversary- May We Never Forget
Last Saturday, a huge riot broke out that Paradiso Theater in East Memphis.
The carnage was on biblical proportions. Multiply cars were overturned and burned in the parking lot, dozens were hurt, and unfortunately two killed.
Bystanders at the scene could only watch in horror at the destruction.
The Memphis police responded as best they could with 23 squad cars and the riot squad.
But by then it was too late. The hooligans had razed the Paradiso to the ground. It was a bold attack on the very heart of the East Memphis economy. Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been lost in economic activity. Ten youth ages 12 to 18 were charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct for this brazen attach.A well attended townhall meeting agreed that the Paradiso must be rebuilt to show the hooligans they haven't won. As you read this, plans are being drawn up and resources positioned for the invasion and liberation of the Riverview-Kansas neighborhood. But as the first week's anniversary approaches a sense of anxiety has fallen over Laurelwood and other areas of the Poplar Corridor.

And one day, one day soon, we will fly a banner for all of East Memphis to see, from the highest reaches of the new cinematic edifice to the green peaks of Whole Foods, proudly telling the hooligans and the world: "Mission Accomplished."

Looking at the rubble that once was the Paradiso, I noticed how close it is to Noura Jackson's house. Coincidence...or conspiracy?
