Sarah Palin= Terri Schiavo

Ok, I admit it. I love Sarah Palin even more than that buxom crazy woman that ran for Senate in Florida a few years ago. You can't make up a secessionist, creationist, pro-life zealot who traveled 13 hours on 2 planes several thousand miles after her water broke before giving birth, power abusing, lying, shotgun wedding promoting, beauty queen, Vice Presidential candidate. This is beyond my abilities to imagine and I can imagine a lot.
A couple of things are truely striking about the media frenzy taking place. First, when you watch republicans on TV talking about Palin, pay attention to who they are. Aside from Tim Pawlenty and Heather Wilson (cried because she saw Janet Jackson's breast in 2004), there aren't any major republican elected officials defending her. Just paid party hacks. Nobody wants to be near this trainwreck.
The second thing is how this is starting to feel like Terri Schiavo. I remember the wingnuts coming out in full force for Schiavo. The American public got a taste of what the republican base really believes and how they will force their beliefs on others without hesitation. That and Katrina turned the tide for the democrats in the 2006 mid terms. (Mark Foley was just the icing on the cake and there was something going on in Mesopetamia as well.) The wingnutters have been locked in the basement somewhat for the past two years after that drubbing, busily emailing each other how Obama is a secret muslim. McCain, in his infinite wisdom, decided it was 2004 all over, opened the basement door, and threw redmeat to his base. McCain got his folks fired up but they escaped their basements. They are posting comments on blogs and newspaper comment sections across the country, putting their wingnuttery on full display. Just go and look at the story about Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter in the Commercial Appeal today. Notice how the anti-abortioners are using terms like "baby murders" and other extreme rhetoric. (I wonder if there is a link between extremist language and rightwing violence against liberals and democrats?)
It truely is a remarkable bit of timing that the wingnutters are going all Schiavo at the very moment when a hurricane nearly hit's New Orleans almost exactly three years after Katrina and at the beginning of the Republican Convention. Talk about a perfect storm hitting the American political system. It is called McCain-Palin08. Can someone say Goldwater 64!
