Rudy- This Is Why People are Voting for You?

Well, Rudy knows he's toast. He's got more ethics scandals than the Fords of Memphis and the republican establishment is abandoning him for McCain. So what is he to do. Sell fear and racism. Take a look at this video http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/video/2007/dec/27/primaries.rudy.guiliani

Look at the people talking and what his supporters are saying. You're afraid of the United States being turned into Israel and Palestinians blowing places up? WTF
Or how about those pesky muslims coming back after a thousand years. They're kind of smart in their own way. Good thing Rudy will send them back to their caves. How racist and ignorant can people be. When white christian folks ancestors were rolling around in the mud with the livestock seven centuries ago, an Arab muslim could write a check in present day Morocco and get it cashed in Pakistan. Now that's globalization.
Even if Rudy wasn't an authoritarian, cross-dressing, cousin marrying, corrupt bum, I don't think the fear card would play that well. He's why. Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland has had political violence for years, especially from the 1970's to the 1990's. Belfast has neighborhoods where the curbs are painted red, white, and blue for loyalists (protestants) and green, gold, and white for the republicans (catholics). You had old leaders like Ian Paisley and Jerry Adams spewing hate. People would be beaten or killed for being in the wrong area. There would even be parades (followed by riots) through republican neighborhoods by loyalists just as a provocation. Terrorism, violence and animosity were omnipresent. But then something happened in the last few years. Young people stopped giving a shit if a person was protestant or catholic. Belfast has become a party city, attracting other young people from all over Europe. Even Ian Paisley knows things have changed and is starting work with Sein Fenn. (I guess Paisley wanted to hold on to some relevance and not be seen as a complete dinosuar from a dark age that people are just wait for him to die and his hate with it.)
Young people in America don't care about that stuff anymore either, unless you're a college republican. Black people aren't the boggyman. Hip-hop is the most popular musical genre. Gay people aren't going to destroy society. TV tells young people they just want to help us dress better. Muslims are here to kill us and enact shira law. Their studying computer engineering at my university. Guys in button down shirts and khakis, wearing glasses, and driving silver Honda Civics are not scaring their fellow students in Manchester, Hew Hampshire. The right wing has trumped up these fears so much and for so long that when young folks meet one of these scary people it makes the former perception of fear seem absurd.
Watching that video of Rudy supporters doesn't make me worry about his possible election, rather I feel sorry for those supporters living in such a state of anxiety. But those folks are shrinking in number. Let the republicans run on fear, it just pushes young people to the Democrats. Studies have shown that way a person votes in their first two elections generally establishes their voting pattern for decades, if not life. In 2004 young broke for Democrats over 60%. That trend continued in 2006. Throw in hispanics overwhelmingly going Democratic and you've permenant minority party written all over the Republican Party.
